Beignet is a dessert from New Orleans and according to the internet there is only one place to get them, Cafe Beignet.
We knew what we wanted and where to get them. They cost $3.99 for three, so we got some to take away. They were freshly made for us so we had to wait around 8 mins for them to be handed to us. when we got them they were still warm so we decided to have a bite straight away.
They are basically a flat fried doughnut, covered (and I mean covered) in icing sugar. They were ok, considering this was supposed to the THE place to get them they didn't really blow us away. They were neither crunchy or soft, they were in between which wasn't exciting - Maria explained they reminded her of mini doughnuts you get at carnivals. We had to remove a lot of icing sugar before we took a bite and the bag was still heavy with it after we had eaten them. I can see how some people might find these great, but for us, they were more disappointing. We'll return to pralines any day of the week.
