After an exhaustive morning shopping at Westfield Stratford, made worse by the fact we couldn't go home just yet as we would have to pay an exorbitant amount in resident permit charges, we decided to have lunch at the shopping center. We had a good look around the Great Eastern food market and were drawn in by the tempting Chorizo sandwich on El Cantara's menu.
Looking at the menu with a couple of local Spanish beers, we decided to try a few bits from the Tapas menu displayed on the Chalkboard. Our experience started well with a free sample of Boquerones - fresh anchovies served on crusty bread - instantly we were glad we had sat down.
Next came the Lamb Tagine, which had obviously been slowly simmering for hours. As the tender Lamb fell to pieces in our mouth, the next plate arrived! The Tortilla Espanola was another fantastic experience: melt in the mouth potato and onion, made better by the copious amount of Aioli. Lastly, crusty bread with ham on top was the perfect finish to our lunch.
All in all, we were surprised to find such great food in a shopping center, and might be forced to review our snobbery when we are hungry during another shopping expedition, which, let's face it, we always are!
