Secret coffee and Bun Cha

After a very leisurely start to the day, we decided that we needed to get up and go in search of coffee and lunch. We decided to look for a secret cafe, through a silk shop and up many flights of winding stairs. We found it easily and were delighted with both the view of the lake and the amazing coffee. I really like Vietnamese coffee and this sweet hot black coffee was delicious! Anthony was more adventurous and went for the egg milk coffee, a sweet frothy coffee with a rather custardy flavour.

Next was a hunt for bun cha. When we found the suggested restaurant, we were ushered upstairs and ordered two bowls of bun cha and then tried to explain in sign language that we would also like two crab spring rolls, much to the amusement of our waitress. We thought our attempts to order were pretty awful, until we watched the couple next to us try to order the same thing!

The bun cha was delicious! Piles of cold noodles, fresh herbs and juicy fried pork slices and succulent pork patties with another meaty broth and pickled vegetables. The crab spring rolls were crispy and juicy and went really well with the bun cha.So

So far the food in Hanoi has been incredible and I can't wait to try more tomorrow!
