After 10 weeks of school, the last week was really dragging. So to celebrate hump day (Wednesday to those not in the know) we decided to venture out with Patti and Dave to a Turkish place off Fountain Square that Dave said has just been refurbished.
We arrived just after 6 and Dave was disappointed that the serving area didn't have something that he said looked quite good. But we found a place to sit and had a look at the vast menu. After speaking to a waiter with very good English, we decided to have a wonder around the serving area pointing at what looked good.
We started with three kebabs; chicken, lamb, spicy lamb. We also ordered a few side dishes; aubergine, two types of dolma, garlic yogurt, stuffed peppers and beetroots. The kebabs were fantastic. The were cooked well and were extremley juicy. Not sure about them being spicy though. The beetroots, yogurt and aubergine were all good as well. The dolmas were the stars of the show and the stuffed peppers tasted great. We also had a few surprises in the way of bread. We started with a stodgy roll that was great for sauce dipping, but when the kebabs came out they were joined by a bread called a 'poof'. These were giant, hollow breads perfect for stuffing with kebabs and the salad that came with it.
For dessert we wanted to try the Turkish coffee (which Maria and I hadn't had since Istanbul) and also what looked like pumpkin in syrup. We also had some baklava which was unlike others we had tried before, both in looks and in taste.
This was a very successful night out. Beer was available and it didn't end up being too expensive either. Definitely one we would return to.
